First Week Sales & Projections

Yeat’s Aftërlyfe is on track to double the first week sales of his second studio album, 2 Alivë, according to Hits Double Daily for the streaming week of Feb 24th to March 2nd. Yeat’s fans are die-hard and the numbers certainly back their claims that he’s a rapper to watch.
Don Toliver’s Love Sick first week projected sales, for the same week, are unfortunately lower than his previous album, Life of a Don. The 31-36K projection doesn’t even match up to the sales for his debut studio album, Heaven or Hell, which sold 44,000 album-equivalent units in its opening week according to Billboard.
Not pictured, Key Glock’s new album Glockoma 2 is projected to move 24-27K album-equivalent units in its opening week (also according to HDD).

Fourth-Grade Teacher Uses Kid Cudi Lyrics to Teach Science Class

Kid Cudi, the rapper who famously said he’d like to be a kindergarten teacher one day on Hot Ones, is already part of a school’s curriculum thanks to Marlee Christianson, a fourth-grade science teacher.
She recently remixed his “Day ‘n’ Nite” lyrics to teach her class some facts about the earth’s rotation around the sun, shown in the TikTok video below.
@missmarlee23 My millenial is showing… Learning about Day and Night I HAD to use Day ‘N’ Nite by Kid Cudi. Couldn’t miss that opportunity. #kidcudi #day... See more
Cudi has yet to acknowledge the remix but he did announce a new album and world tour this week after previously saying to Zane Low that the recently released Entergalactic soundtrack would serve as his final project. Another reminder that rapper’s “retirement” quotes are never set in stone.
Album this Fall. First singles this summer. The new chapter has begun...

Drake Has the “Most Gigantic Tits” in Any Room

Drizzy Drake Rogers sat down with Purple Floyd Yachty for a rare interview and first-class entertainment, sparking thoughts that their talk show should exist outside of the “Oprah’s Bank Account” music video. Below, find the best moments and insights from the moody conversation.
The inception of “Drizzy Drake Rogers”
Lil Wayne rapped the nickname in a line on “Ransom” and no one understood the “Rogers” reference until now. Wayne mistakenly took Drake’s email address ([email protected]) as his full name, not knowing Rogers is a Canadian service provider or that anything after the @ is unrelated to the person.
The rap game competition
“Rap is a very addictive and competitive space and oftentimes you’re addicted to the competition itself. It might baffle you why some artists are making attempts to be present in the space and then you’ll realize their needs and desires were probably fed for so long after being “a guy” or “the guy” that they can’t let it go,” Drake introspectively said to Yachty.
It’s this topic that prompted the “graceful exit” quotes about Drake deciding not to compete anymore when the time is right.
Why Drake relates to girls with big tits
It was a therapist that made this comparison, telling Drake that no matter what kind of woman he chases, physically speaking, “you walk into any room and you have the most gigantic tits, nobody can think about anything else other than your gigantic tits which is you’re Drake.”
The preconceived notions that exist in people’s minds about Drake command the attention of the room prompting the “big tits” metaphor for its attention-grabbing relatability.
When they get to know him and break the fourth wall then, “they’re like wow you’re actually, your tits are huge but you’re super smart or you’re really nice. So it’s interesting, that’s why I relate to girls with huge tits,” Drake concludes to Yachty.
Drake’s biggest pet peeve
Yachty asked for a harmless confession and Drake divulged that if he’s with a girl and they wake up earlier but have to control the room, he can’t stand it. “For example, if someone wakes up earlier than me and busts the blinds open, or if somebody is on their phone but like taking calls and shit in bed….that’s horrible to me,” he said.
Bonus, at 31:09, watch Drake give Yachty some media training on not making generalizations about women while promoting a unisex sunglasses brand.

Don Toliver Delivers His Most Conceptual Album to Date

Last Friday, Don Toliver returned with ambiance, vibes, Xannned-out synthesizers, and ethereal production on his new album, Love Sick. As someone who has agreed with the “better as a feature artist” allegations, this album surprisingly had me on a transcendental journey at 4 am.
Love Sick is less about introspection or next-level lyricism and more about the way Don conveys emotion through sounds and melodies, using his voice as his best instrument and elevating it with the right features and producers. Below, I present my evidence for the case of Love Sick in Albums on Trial, also known as rap fans' quintessential W or L debate after every release.
Concept is King 👑
Don didn’t reinvent the wheel of sound on this album but it’s streamlined in a way his previous albums aren’t. As the title suggests, it’s the sound of falling and being in love, contextualized in the opening track with the words, “A wise man once said, falling in love, is the one fall you don’t get up from”.
The drug-drenched melodies and production are aptly suited for this concept if you consider the common comparison between love and addiction. Notably, there are sonic pockets for different moods, take the slow euphoria of “4 Me” and the heart palpitations of “Bus Stop”, much like the non-linear experience of love itself.
Lightskin “Bizzle” Bieber & A1 Features 💥
TikTok is hooked on “Private Landing” featuring Justin Bieber and Future. Or should I say, lightskin Bieber, Justin Jaquan Bieber, Jerome Bieber (pick your poison) coming out of retirement with a few murmured bars.
The collab is reminiscent of Bieber’s 2012-2014 era when he was transitioning from a square Radio Disney star to an edgier pop star with tattoos who hangs out with Soulja Boy. Meanwhile, Future represents the foot fetish community with his bar “I don’t take hoes on no date, ‘less they got pretty feet (I swear)”.
James Blake adds to the psychedelic trap/r&B sound with vocals on “Go Down” and production on “Leave The Club” (feat. Lil Durk and Glorilla) and “Slow Motion”. Kaytranada is behind the playful flow of “Honeymoon” and Brent Faiyaz teams up with Don for the Jersey Club-influenced “Bus Stop”, which is already a fan favorite.
Samples on Samples
As Don is a 1994 baby, I’m not surprised he brought out the ‘90s and 2000s samples but gave a nice modern adaptation to each that pays homage without being swallowed in the nostalgia.
“4 Me” samples Beenie Man’s “Girls Dem Sugar” (2000) produced by The Neptunes and Kali Uchis bodies the interpolation of Mya’s original post-chorus.
“Leather Coat” interpolates “All Around The World” (1989) by Lisa Stansfield
“Do It Right” interpolates “Take Your Time (Do It Right)” (1980) by The S.O.S. Band
“Company Pt. 3” interpolates “Company” and “Company Pt. 2” by Don Toliver
“Bus Stop” interpolates “I Can’t Get You Out My Mind” (1996) by Blackstreet
