Why Travis Scott’s MetLife Show Was One for the Books

Travis Scott with Future and Playboi Carti onstage

Celebrating One Night Only in UTOPIA, Scott made history as the first rapper to headline MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Over 60,000 ragers packed out the stadium either in the stands or running to the pit to hear what Scott had in store — and he had plenty. From the roller coaster rides to surprise guests, Scott went out with a bang in NJ.

It’s always lit with La Flame

“I told myself that I wanted to do this last year, but they said it was cold and shit. I didn’t give a fuck, but whatever…I told myself I wasn’t gonna give up on the opportunity to come back and be able to do MetLife Stadium, and a lot of people thought I was crazy. But one thing I do know, I got the realest motherf****** fans of all time,” Scott told the ecstatic crowd.

His setlist brought back classics like “Apple Pie” (which he dedicated to his parents in attendance) and newer hits like “MODERN JAM” and “FE!N” (seven times).

The full setlist from Scott’s One Night Only In Utopia show included:

However, he didn’t come out to perform solo dolo. Rumors began to spread throughout the day that Don Toliver and Ye (once Scott was seen blasting “RUNAWAY” at soundcheck) would be surprise guests at the show. The closest fans got to a Ye performance, though was La Flame covering the Ye track “Praise God.”

Instead, Sheck Wes made an appearance to perform “Mo Bamba,” Carti eventually came out of his vampire cave to perform “FE!N,” and finally, Future arrived to perform “Type Shit” after his recent chart victories. All together, Carti, Scott, and Future are having their own “big three” moment with the way that they are leading hip-hop—and the October 9 concert celebrated that.

The show marked the end of the UTOPIA era—but made fans excited for what’s next.

J. Cole is Sick of The K. Dot and Drake Beef Convos

J. Cole in the middle of Kendrick and Drake

On April 7, J. Cole apologized to Kendrick Lamar after dropping the diss record “7 Minute Drill.” Overwhelmingly, the Internet got onto his head about going back on what he said and thinking he chose the easy way out. But after seeing how K. Dot threw Drake around by the braids like the Hulk to Loki, many people offered Cole World an apology.

Once he continued his crazy 2024 feature run, dropping some of his best verses like “A PLATE OF COLLARD GREENS” with Daylyt, even more took back their criticisms. However, Cole didn’t forget what people had said post-apology and finally had the time to address it head-on.

Cole World visits “Port Antonio”

Cole dropped a surprise track on October 9 called “Port Antonio” and defended his decision to drop out of the rap battle between Lamar and Drizzy.

I pulled the plug because I've seen where that was 'bout to go, They wanted blood, they wanted clicks to make they pockets grow, They see this fire in my pen and think I'm dodgin' smoke, I wouldn't have lost a battle, dawg, I woulda lost a bro, I woulda gained a foe, and all for what? Just to attain some mo', Props from strangers that don't got a clue what I been aimin' for,” J. Cole spit on the track.

Cole has worked with both rappers on recent tracks like “First Person Shooter” with Drake and production on “HiiiPower” for Lamar.

On the song, Cole continued to say that both rappers potentially went too far in their vicious battle.

“Since the age of fourteen, Jermaine is no king, If that means I gotta dig up dirt and pay the whole team, I understand the thirst of being first that made 'em both swing, Protecting legacies, so lines got crossed, perhaps regrettably, My friends went to war, I walked away with all they blood on me,” he said.

Cole even addressed his friendship with Drake while reminding listeners what hip-hop is really about.

“They say I'm pickin' sides, ayy, don't you lie on me, my n****, Then start another war, ayy, Drake, you'll always be my n****, I ain't ashamed to say you did a lot for me, my n**** … Tappin' back into your magic pen is what's imperative, Remindin' these folks why we do it, it's not for beefin', It's for speakin' our thoughts, pushin' ourselves, reachin' the charts,” Cole concluded.

The track was well-received not only by fans but by Drake personally, who liked Cole’s post about the track online.

While Kendrick has not responded to the track yet, one thing is for sure—Cole is over the foolishness.
