Weird Things Rappers are Buying & Selling

Why Offset can't release new music

Trigger warning for Wiz Khalifa’s toes in the tweet below. He became the subject of ridicule and memes earlier this month when the internet discovered his feet were in desperate need of hydration. So, he picked up his pen and got creative by writing a poem in response to the haters. You can find it under the “Real Spill” section. In other news today:

Hot 100 Chart & Streams

The above chart shows Billboard’s Hot 100 ranking, as of today, and the corresponding song streams for the week of March 24-31st as reported by Hits Double Daily (streaming weeks follow a Friday to Thursday schedule).

Billboard’s Hot 100 chart ranks songs based on a combination of streaming activity, radio airplay audience impressions, and sales data—all measured by Luminate. The formula to determine their ranking is unknown but the stream data provides insight into how much of a song’s rank is attributed to radio airplay and sales.

“Creeping” and “Boys a liar Pt. 2” dropped by 1 spot, “Just Wanna Rock” dropped by 2 spots, “Rich Flex” dropped by 3 spots, and “Favorite Song” is the only song that charted higher, by 4 spots. You can find last week’s chart here.

Next week, we’ll see if Drake’s Dreamville performance caused a surge in song streams, particularly for “Rich Flex” and Lil Uzi Vert’s “Just Wanna Rock”, two of the highlights from his set.

Not pictured, Tyler, the Creator’s deluxe album, Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale, is projected to move 65-85K units for first-week sales according to HDD. The album originally sold 169,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.

Offset Accuses Quality Control of Interference With New Music

Quality Control Music label logo and Offset wearing sunglasses and chains

Looks like it’s a new year, same legal troubles for Offset. Prior to the devastating loss of Takeoff, it was public knowledge that Offset was unhappy with Migos label, Quality Control, over the rights to his solo music and the dispute was ongoing.

According to RadarOnline, Offset has filed new court documents in his lawsuit against the record label, alleging that QC engaged in “wrongful interference” with his solo album release. He claims the label is trying to take full credit as the owner of his upcoming solo project despite him paying a large sum to be released from his contract in 2021.

In a now-deleted tweet from this week, Offset wrote, “Never thought life be this fucked up, #LLTake, I can’t drop music also”, hinting at the aforementioned legal block.

When did the legal battle begin?

After a settlement deal had been reached between Offset and QC in 2021, Offset filed a public lawsuit against QC in August 2022, regarding the rights to his solo music, suggesting that nothing was indeed settled.

At the beginning of this year, QC replied with a countersuit for breach of contract that would render any previous agreement made null and void. The label claimed that Offset breached the “confidentiality provision” of the 2021 deal by publicly disclosing the terms of the settlement.

The legal fine print is tedious but to summarize it in plain terms, QC also argued that Offset’s copyrights with Capital Records for solo recordings were reassigned by Capitol to QC, and that made them legally entitled to claim ownership.

Offset’s Response

Offset’s most recent court documents refute QC’s claim and state that Capitol had acquired Offset’s solo sound recordings directly from Offset, not QC and that QC’s interference is “groundless and unjustified”. The new filing asks for QC’s countersuit to be dismissed and Offset’s lawsuit to be moved forward.

Wiz Khalifa Responds to “Ashy” Feet Accusations With a Poem

Wiz Khalifa sitting on a chair barefoot with ashy feet

Wiz Khalifa made headlines recently for….his feet. Not because he has a foot fetish or feet worthy of being fetishized—quite the opposite. He posted photos of himself enjoying a tattoo and studio session at home, barefoot, and a quick zoom revealed that the toes were not toeing. Cue the Twitter reactions.

Wiz’s response? An original poem addressing all the feet-shamers. I respect his humorous approach but I have to suggest he adds a hydration expert to those “sessions” at his house. Check it out below.

Stop Making Jokes About My Feet by Wiz Khalifa

Stop making jokes about my feet / Cause that shit ain’t funny / Y’all keep making jokes about my feet, but bitch I got money

You ain’t gonna say it to my face, but you’ll talk about me when I’m gone / Your toes probably look like that too, but you got nail polish on / When I seen all those tweets, you can’t imagine how I felt / I get my pedicures but my feet still dry, so don’t laugh send help

Stop talking about my feet / Cause that shit ain’t funny / Y’all keep making jokes about my feet, but bitch I got money

When I log online I seen all types of disrespect / Bunch of n***as talking shit, not one nail tech / Talking crazy ‘bout Wiz Khalifa like your shit so neat / Look down past yo phone and take a picture of ya own damn feet

Stop making jokes about my feet / Cause that shit ain’t funny / Y’all keep making jokes about my feet, but bitch I got money

You can find the video version, recited by Wiz here.

Twitter U/LordLuminous replied with his own poem, “I may be broke, and that’s a fact / But my feet look rich, compared to those crusty crabs you have on black”, and feet pic, naturally.

What do you think of Wiz's feet poem?

The Best Moments From J. Cole and Drake’s Dreamville Festival Set

Drake and J. Cole shaking hands onstage at Dreamville Festival 2023

J. Cole’s Dreamville festival returned to Raleigh, North Carolina this past weekend, for its third, and arguably best, year. The second night prompted many “how does it feel to live my dream” comments from fans not able to attend when Drake and J. Cole delivered a memorable performance with so many special guests it should have its own flyer for the lineup—Glorilla, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Wayne, and 21 Savage.

The duo’s setlist had 39 songs 🤯 and J. Cole fittingly kicked things off with his 2010 song “Who Dat”, an ode to his North Carolina roots. He brought out his Dreamville artists to perform “Down Bad” and “Under The Sun” from their latest compilation album, Revenge of the Dreamers III and then came the infamous Kanye shout-out.

After J. Cole performed “Villematic” from his Friday Night Lights mixtape, which samples Rick Ross and Kanye’s “Devil In A New Dress”, he said, “Shoutout to Kanye West. Please clear the sample for me, my brother. I appreciate it.” Dreamville’s co-founder and president, Ibrahim Hamad, later tweeted that Cole rapped on 10 Kanye beats for the mixtape and it will be released on streaming services if Kanye ever decides to clear them.

Drake made his entrance with “Sicko Mode”...

Drake ran a bunch of classics like “Headlines”, “HYFR”, and “Marvin’s Room” before bringing out his first special guest, Glorilla, to perform her hit “F.N.F”. Then came Lil Uzi Vert for “XO TOUR LIF3” and “Just Wanna Rock”...

“Dreamville I told you I got it if you wanted the bosses here, I don’t know what to tell you,” Drake said after Lil Wayne joined him onstage for “The Motto”, “Uproar” and “A Milli”. It was a Young Money reunion.

Rap Romance: The Finale

Drake got the crowd to sing Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” to J. Cole and Cole gave Drake his flowers with a heartfelt speech about his greatness.

Hot Take: was Dreamville the best festival of the year so far?

Weird Things Rappers Are Buying & Selling

If you’ve ever taken a business class, fallen in a TikTok finance hole, or had a friend that won’t shut up about the stock market, then you’ll know the importance of maximizing your funds with multiple streams of income.

Rappers often take on side projects and/or sponsorships in other industries, for the right bag, but a recent string of quirky headlines makes for an interesting roundup of classified ads in a world where rap has its own version of Facebook Marketplace.

Welcome to Rap’s Marketplace, where rappers can make high and low-end deals, without net worth or status discrimination—there’s a place for everyone. Disclaimer, this is a fictional place but the stories featured are true.

From Bandman Kevo’s wanted ad for Gunna’s debt collection and Drake’s home studio listing to Moneybagg Yo’s newly opened restaurant, you can check out the latest listings below.

For Sale: Drake’s home studio, recently rented by Riff Raff for $500K

Drake’s home studio in his Toronto mansion was listed on StuFinder, the popular app for booking recording studios, at a premium price of $250K per hour for full access to custom recording equipment but no engineer or guest feature from Drake.

On Sunday, April 2nd, the app reported that the listing had its first buyer—Riff Raff who purchased 2 hours for $500K. Sadly for Riff Raff, the app issued a statement that it was verifying Drake’s approval for the listing while placing a hold on the $500K payment.

Any potential buyers will have to wait to place their bid but the possibilities are endless, what would you do with an hour in Drake’s home studio?

Wanted: Bandman Kevo demands $5M from Gunna

Bandman Kevo still has a bone to pick with Gunna over a failed collaboration from 2022. Prior to Gunna’s arrest, Kevo paid the rapper $250K for a feature verse but the YSL RICO indictment put a hold on the song’s release and he’s looking to recoup his losses.

In an interview with Say Cheese!, Kevo said his price has gone up and he now demands $5 million from Gunna as compensation for the abandoned feature. As an explanation for the $4.5M gap in what Kevo paid vs what he believes he’s owed, he cited delays from Gunna’s team on signing off on the feature post-jail release and says that Gunna’s snitch allegations made the feature a bad investment.

Contact Bandman Kevo if you have any legal services to help him secure compensation or financial advice to mitigate this “bad investment”.

For Sale: Joey Bada$$’ pen game for 1 month only

Calling all musical talent, Joey Bada$$ is offering his services for a guest feature while his “pen is hot” but act quickly because this “fire sale” is available for 1 month only. The price is undetermined but worthy of 2 dollar signs ($$) in the call-to-action and competition is stiff with one potential buyer saying he would sell his kidneys to purchase a Joey Bada$$ feature.

Now Open: Moneybagg Yo’s restaurant with former Lil Wayne personal chef

Moneybagg Yo has taken entered the world of cuisine with a brand-new restaurant in Memphis called Cache 42 (no known affiliation to 42 Dugg). Located at 4202 Hacks Cross Road, Cache 42’s doors opened on March 31st and potential patrons can expect an “elevated fine dining experience”.

The head chef, Darius Leatherwood, has curated a menu of popular items such as lamb chops and oxtail and has a history of appeasing rappers’ taste buds by having once worked as Lil Wayne’s personal chef.

For all potential diners, ask yourself if it’s good enough for Weezy and Moneybagg Yo, is it good enough for you?
