Ye Reportedly Working on New Album Inspired by Asia

Ye wearing a baseball cap

After receiving mixed reviews, Ye has gone back and fixed some of the major issues with VULTURES 2 and organized listening experiences to celebrate. Despite certain dates like Taiwan and Washington D.C. being canceled, Ye and Ty Dolla $ign recently performed a humongous show in South Korea. Ye gave fans a taste of his entire catalog, spitting over 70 songs and leading a “F*** Adidas” chant with the crowd.

The performances in Asia have been going well, with Ye scheduling more dates on the other side of the world —and potentially getting new album inspo.

Ye takes on Asia—and a new project?

In a since-deleted Instagram post, Ye confirmed that there would be a new VULTURES 2 listening experience in Haikou, China. The specific venue had not been chosen yet. Fans are unsure if the event is already canceled since it was taken off of Ye’s IG, but we will all find out when September 15 rolls around.

Along with a potential new show, Ye has been making headlines for allegedly working on a new album. The CEO of Channel Candy (the event organizer working with Ye) said that Ye told them “he would put the inspiration he received from Goyang Gongyeon [the South Korean city where he performed] in his new album.”

Additionally, they said the Goyang performance “seems to have become a huge turning point” for Ye and Ty Dolla $ign, and Ye is “currently working hard on performances and albums.”

Ye is the king of promising albums that never see the light of day. However, fans are still excited to see if the rap mastermind delivers. “Sounds like Kanye is back in his creative zone, can't wait to see what he comes up with next,” said X user blesskatty in a September 3 post.

Could we get a new Ye album by the end of the year?

Not Everyone Wants to Be on a Drake Song

Drake wearing glasses

Drake seems to follow in his former friend and collaborator Ye’s footsteps. In an attempt to save his certified lover cosplay cowboy image, Drizzy dropped 100 GIGS of new songs and footage at the beginning of August.

Since then, he has consistently added new material to ensure we never get enough of him. However, one of his songs released through the drop has been taken off streaming services due to rising legal issues.

On top of that, well-known DJ and producer Kaytranada shared that he was approached to work on a recent Drake album, but Drake’s team ultimately said Honestly, Nevermind. The reason why is further proof that not everyone wants to be on a Drake song for clout or bragging rights.

“Blue Green Red” is at a red light

The song “Blue Green Red” has been removed from streaming services due to it allegedly sampling the 1991 song “When” by dancehall artist Tiger without their or producer Cleveland “Clevie” Browne’s permission.

“SONY/EMI [his publishers] called on Friday and said they were seeking clearance for “When” but they did not send the song. We can’t clear a song without hearing it. But Drake went ahead and leaked it before [...] They used the melody just in a section, and it was repeated twice. So this is a clear infringement,” Browne said in an August interview with Dancehall Magazine.

This is not the first issue that they have had with Champagne Papi. Steely and Clevie Productions (which Browne is a part of) is involved in an ongoing copyright infringement lawsuit “filed in a California federal court against over 160 artists and record labels, including Drake and UMG.” The songs “One Dance” and “Mía” with Bad Bunny (along with more than 1,800 other tracks) have been accused of ripping off the 1989 riddim from Steely and Clievie called “Fish Market.”

Kaytranada left off ‘Honestly, Nevermind’

Kaytranada shared in an August interview with Vulture why he wasn’t a part of Drake’s house music-heavy album Honestly Nevermind, and it’s pretty petty on team Drake’s part.

He was approached at a Coachella after-party to make beats for the project, and though he told Vulture that it would be “an honor,” he didn’t give the response that Drake’s team was looking for.

“He later overheard that it fell through because his casual response — ‘Sure, hit me up’ — lacked fawning enthusiasm. ‘Was I supposed to be like, ‘Oh my God, for real? Drake?’ I’m not like that,’” he said in the interview.

Drake and his camp haven’t officially—or sneak diss—responded to these headlines. Nevertheless, it puts a damper on the comeback he’s trying to make post- “Not Like Us.” However, his new collab with Lil Durk, which was teased by Adin Ross (allegedly called “Discontinuing Wockhardt,”), can help soften the blow.

Thoughts on “Discontinuing Wockhardt?”
